  23. Haven't spoken to you in a while.  Mark, concerning clock speeds on the
  24. 21064, you are correct!  
  25.  
  26. The reason for the 289Mhz was due to a couple of things.  First, we 
  27. researched Q/A of the chip and basically it was safe to clock-up
  28. the chip at various frequencies.  However, as a good rule of thumb
  29. you could clock-up to 5% over the rated value within less than a 
  30. 1% failure rate.  Therefore, 275 up'd to 5% was 288.75 or 289.  Besides,
  31. being a founder of both Carrera and NekoTech, and hoping some day for
  32. a nice car collection, 289 was a good Mustang model!  :^)

  34. At Carrera there was a Cobra, and a Pantera, Neko had the Mach series
  35. etc. . .sorry for the history!  I probably should have been a mechanic
  36. rather than an entreprenuer!!

  38. Actually from a comp. sci. standpoint; the best frequencies for Alpha/PCI
  39. based systems using either the Trebbia chipset (Deskstation) or Apex &
  40. Alcor (Digital Semiconductor) the proper clock frequencies are in
  41. multiples of 33.  For example, 266, 300, 333, etc. . .Mhz typically 
  42. peak the clock speed for memory, cache and processor speeds.  The 275 Mhz
  43. was a speed that Digital was aiming towards, when the industry was wow'd
  44. by Intel's whopping 90 Mhz Pentiums.  Digital's yields of the 275 is
  45. pretty amazing.  Something like 99% or something like that!
